Hulubalang - BUNYI BUNYI TUMBAL
Haunting album from Hulubalang aka Kasymin from GMO. “The phrase “BUNYI BUNYI TUMBAL” signifies a “Synthetic Feeling for Anonymous Sacrifice,” encompassing the emotions born out of a deep dive into the Indonesian war archives. These archives include a trove of photographs documenting the era of Dutch rule, captured through the lens of the colonizers themselves.” Extremely important work that is best experienced by witnessing the liveshow with Brandon Tay, so keep an eye out for that.
Nondi_ - Flood City Trax
Probably my 2023 AOTY – intelligent and playful music that keeps surprising me.
Anushka Chkheidze - Halfie
Contemporary IDM album by talented producer Anushka Chkheidze.
De Ambassade - Duistre Kamers
From one of my dearest friends, one of my all time favssss ❤️
Fergus McQueenie - ID#1
Sebastiano Carghini - As Long As I Go
One of my favourite ambient releases from the last decade, deserves way more love!
VA - Donne Che Corrono Coi Lupi
International Sangman - Death Roads & Spirit Ways
Dubbed out, spaced out. Dubby, stripped down electronics done right!
MinaeMinae - Räumlichkeit
Truly adventurous album on the mighty Marionette imprint. The cover is also very nice, especially in real life.
Blackwater - Navigation
I have good memories about this album as I used to play this a lot in the first weeks of my first daughter’s life. She seemed to really like it and my theory is because it sounds a bit like how noises would be heared from within the womb of her mother. Still in love with it!
Huerco S. - For Those Of You Who Have Never (And Also Those Who Have)
Modern classic – should be in everybody’s record cabinet.
Various Artists - Synthetic Bird Music
Artificial birds composed by a stellar line-up of ambient/electronica all-stars on mappa, a label I keep getting back at.
The Jaffa Kid - Phyalla
The Jaffa Kid is such a phenomenal and truly versatile producer – 2023 album on Gated is a big tip, as are the other ~10 albums (!) he released that year.
Urner - Exits
Exits is the debut album of Urner. Released on Atlantic Rhythms, it is the culmination of a year of compositional experimentation, personal growth, and deep introspection. The album’s live improvisations explore the spaces between environmental music, video game soundtracks, and deep listening.
sun people - joyful discontent
Doing a lot with less. This stripped down, fast-paced music is playfull, intelligently designed and I actually can’t keep sitting still when it’s on.
upsammy - Zoom
Released in 2021, upsammy worked almost 1,5 year on this debut album in which I tried helping her troughout the process as A&R. An album that’s very dear to me as I truly think this is a future classic!
